FBPT 2009: Pasar Terapung/ Floating Market

The Iconic Floating Market

FBPT 2009 stands for Festival Budaya Pasar Terapung (in english: Floating Market Culture Festival). The-three-day-event is held in Banjarmasin, county town of South Borneo, Indonesia. It shows many cultural works of Banjarese such as pasar terapung, dance, song, food, and even the traditional matrimony.

This article exclusively represent of the pasar terapung scene from FBPT 2009 (the other cultural works will have each article). Pasar terapung (floating market) is the most iconic scene of Banjarmasin. The actual market takes place in the end of Kuin River at Barito River. We can see the market between 5 am and 6.30 am. It consist of various sellers (fruit, vegetables, fish, and even traditional food such as soto banjar) and customers, which some of them is actually the seller in conventional traditional market (on land). It's really wonderful to see such scene of many little boats (aka jukung) and it makes a great photography object (for photography enthusiast like me). Come visit Banjarmasin, Indonesia! Witness the beauty by your self!
